Take My hand...

One winters day in the Yukon, myself and Birch Kuck (on clarinet) recorded and played on this song by our friend Jim Quinsey. I met Jim at a jam here in town at this legendary spot called the Backwater. It was a small pub with this cool artistic, creative vibe. Jim has something no one else I've ever played with had. He was a great storyteller and his songs were so real. You could close your eyes and just be there. This song, he said, was about a walk along Douglas Beach in Juneau at low tide, on a cold day with someone he loved very much and how they walked and one hand slid down into another hand.
So one day we sat there in a log cabin with heated floors from the natural hot springs here during a cold winters day, looking out over a small lake not quite frozen over. I remember it was the first time I'd really been in a band that did nothing but original music. I was also madly in love at the time with this girl and during this song I'd just close my eyes and picture the two of us walking along a sandy, rock strewn beach in Juneau, a breeze, light rain, the smell of the ocean. This song is magical and I will always be grateful for having Jim in my life as a friend and as a songwriter who wrote the most beautiful songs. Have a listen...
